The 100: The Blood of Sanctum (6.13) Things of Note

This episode was a lot to process but here we are! The final episode of season 6. Let’s get into it!

Running scared. At the end of 6.12, it seemed like the Primes were simply going to hang out on Eligius IV just until the Adjustment was complete. However, Russell decided on the fly that they would head to Planet Beta. If that’s not survivable, then it’s on to Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon. I think Russell believed deep down that he would lose in Sanctum. Even if he did manage to regain control, life would not be the same. Going to one of the other four planets would potentially give Russell a chance to rebuild his “paradise”. There were maybe around 350 people still in cryo so Simone got the idea to mindwipe them. They’d have hosts for a very long time and according to Miranda, they wouldn’t have to know them. The Primes truly have no cares for anyone but themselves! Russell must have grabbed the last dose of nightblood serum on their way out. I imagine they’d also have to tap some of them for bone marrow to keep this going. The Primes keep “doing worse”.

Clarke breaks. Clarke was not about to let Simone kill the sleeping Earthkru members so, at first, she tried to steer them away from the idea. When that didn’t work, she pulled her gun on Russell and Simone and made off with the mindwiping fluid. Realizing Josephine is gone forever, Russell broke down just like Abby did when she thought Clarke was gone forever. He loved Josephine very much and hadn’t experienced the true loss of a loved one in 211 years. He felt the pain that Clarke felt when he killed Abby to bring back Simone. Clarke was genuinely sorry for their loss. Under different circumstances, Clarke and Josephine may have been friends. To lure Clarke to him, Russell grabbed Madi. His timing sucked because Raven was seconds away from completely deleting Sheidheda from the Flame.

Floated Primes. Simone and the Mason’s tracked Clarke’s mind drive to the airlock. Clarke is brilliant, setting a trap for them. Simone tried to pretend to be Abby and pointed her gun at the Masons. Clarke was smart enough to question it. Simone had none of Abby’s memories so she wouldn’t know the name of Clarke’s father. I thought Simone would have at least tried by saying it was Kane! Instead, she turned her gun back on Clarke and Clarke pulled the lever to open the airlock. Clarke and lever…what a pair! Season 7 should end with Clarke pulling a lever to close the door to her house. Maybe she’ll get to live in peace then. Anyway, the Masons and some guards are immediately floated into space while Simone hung on to Clarke. Clarke eventually pushed her out before pulling herself back and pulling the lever back up. Abby was already gone forever but floating Simone really made it final for Clarke. There’s a bit of a parallel with Monty having to kill his mother, who was under the influence of A.L.I.E. And then there was one.

Blood of Sanctum. The “Blood of Sanctum” is a potent mix of real blood (Simone’s?!) and Red Sun toxin. How cult-like. What is the blood supposed to accomplish anyway? Does the toxin enhance loyalty to the person (or people) whose blood is in the mix? Maybe Simone read some books on brainwashing cults and got the idea from that. I really think she was the coldest and most diabolical of the Lightbournes. Anyway, Bellamy, Octavia, Echo, Miller, and some Children of Gabriel were captured by the Adjusters and taken to the tavern. Layla refused to drink the Blood of Sanctum so, the Lead Adjuster slit her throat. After seeing that, Bellamy signaled to Miller to drink the potion. He had inhaled the antitoxin but it wasn’t enough to counter the more concentrated toxin found in the Blood of Sanctum.

Fake Primes to the rescue. Just when Octavia was going to drink the potion, “Kaylee” and “Daniel” show up. Murphy and Emori are pretty good at being gods! Emori was really working it! Anyway, they managed to rescue Bellamy, Octavia, Echo, and Miller under the guise that “adjustments” are not for Earthkru. They couldn’t get away with rescuing Nelson too. As they were leaving, one of the Adjusters hugged and kissed Murphy. Murphy didn’t reciprocate. Daniel was apparently gay and liked shacking up with common folk too. I’m not sure Nulls were allowed to be Adjusters but I could be wrong. That’s one of those things we might never know. Anyway, Murphy’s reaction to Daniel’s lover likely aroused the suspicions of the Lead Adjuster. The believers outside of the tavern didn’t seem to believe that Murphy and Emori were Primes either. I guess that was because Russell never actually introduced them as Daniel and Kaylee to the people.

Drinking Sheidheda Kool-Aid. Seeing Simone and the Masons floating in space sent Russell over the edge. His immediate family and most of his extended Prime family are gone forever. He essentially lost everything in the span of a few hours. Sheidheda sensed his desperation and thirst for revenge so he wanted to help. Russell drank it all up and they formed an alliance of sorts. I wonder what they discussed before they went to the mess.

Power of love. Seeing Madi possessed by Sheidheda broke Clarke so badly. She had already lost her mom and losing Madi would have destroyed her. Clarke was vulnerable and broken which is something we don’t see very often. Being on the brink of losing your entire immediate family in a single day will do that to you. Since Raven was unsuccessful in deleting him from the Flame, Clarke decided to appeal to Madi’s love for her. With tears streaming down her face, Clarke begged Madi to come back and then threatened to pull the trigger. Before she could count to three, Madi broke through and ordered Wonkru to take Russell and his guards. Sheidheda was not pleased and his anger sent Madi into a seizure.

Goodbye Flame. So much for my theory that Echo would take the Flame. Anyway, Raven was able to delete Sheidheda from the Flame, destroying it in the process. Clarke was so overcome with emotion that she couldn’t remove the Flame from Madi. Jackson took over and handed the Flame to Gaia once it was removed. Being a Flamekeeper was Gaia’s calling. It was what she had been working for so of course, she shed a few tears. The time of the commanders is truly over. Sheidheda isn’t finished yet, though, because his code was uploaded somewhere. I’m thinking he’s in the ship’s mainframe. I was hoping this storyline would be over but now, I’m interested to see how Sheidheda comes into play next season. I think I just felt like Madi being tied to it was extraneous.

Adjusting Jordan. Finally, Jordan appeared and he was in a bad way. He had his own personal Adjuster and it looked he had been under the influence for quite a while. He was in a deep trance and had cuts up and down his arm. I have this thought that Priya started the process before Russell instituted the Adjustment Protocol. Jordan still believed that Delilah could be saved so that may have been her way in. Maybe she had been slipping him a little of the potion as he was recovering. No matter when it started, there will definitely be lingering effects.

Save all the people…or try. Murphy saved the remaining Earthkru so he believed his work was done. Gabriel was none too pleased about that and was ready to go save his people on his own. Octavia wasn’t going to allow that. I love that these two have bonded somewhat. Obriel is already a full-fledged ship but I’ll be content if they develop a strong friendship. Anyway, Echo saw helping Gabriel as doing better. Emori was willing to go back to the tavern as Kaylee, take Gabriel as a prisoner, and drink the Blood of Sanctum. As fate would have it, Kaylee disagreed with the Adjustment Protocol so Murphy had to go. He grudgingly agreed and off they went after taking an extra hit of antitoxin. Emori stayed behind with Jordan and Miller. Murphy marched Gabriel through the crowd and into the tavern. I think Lead Adjuster was suspicious of “Daniel” plus she was clearly planning to burn down the tavern anyway. Murphy had my favorite line before drinking the potion (“For the glory and grace of me”). A battle ensues inside and outside of the tavern. Lead Adjuster was going to see her plan through so she doused herself in gasoline and lit herself on fire. Did the Adjusters take an antitoxin too or were they also vulnerable to the toxin? Octavia rammed her and prevented her from killing everyone in the tavern. That shot looked really cool! There were still lots of deaths but they didn’t take out everyone this time. I wonder where Blythe Ann and Jae were during all of this. I hope they managed to escape. Maybe they’ll be part of Jordan’s story in season 7.

Package from the Anomaly. After Octavia stopped Lead Adjuster from burning the tavern down, Gabriel noticed an extensive pattern of letters on her back. Some of them were red. The same pattern is on the Anomaly Stone which has apparently been around for thousands of years. Hmm…life never evolved past insects on Alpha so what created it? The Anomaly itself maybe? I wonder if this Anomaly Stone actually a gateway to another dimension which is thousands of years behind the present. I get the sense that time was altered when Octavia and Diyoza went into the Anomaly. I’m not sure I believe that finding the stone was part of Gabriel’s memories prior to that. Of course, Octavia decided that she had to go back to see what the Anomaly Stone wants with her.

Was it worth it? Clarke tried to better but she lost her mother at the end of it all. It’s the kind of loss that makes you question everything. I think next season, Clarke is going to grapple with the question of whether or not “doing better” actually matters. She might consider killing Russell a few times as she works through the grief. Their dynamic is going to be tense and also interesting. I’m not sure forgiveness is possible on either end. Jordan was also wondering if this was all worth it, albeit for a different reason. While Bellamy and the others might consider what happened a liberation, Jordan might see it as a conquering. They did have peace before Earthkru arrived but it was a result of brainwashing which is a sort of violence against the mind. He was under the influence of the toxin for a while so he’s definitely brainwashed. It doesn’t help that he didn’t have particularly strong bonds with Earthkru folks. While Jordan and Bellamy were talking, an Adjuster was staring at them and ominous music was playing in the background. I think that Adjuster and his little group will make up the faction of people who still believe in the divinity of the Primes. Jordan was also seen holding a mind drive, likely Priya’s. He might be teaming up with Russell next season to try to bring her back. My Ryker X theory might come back up if they recovered his mind drive. I can’t imagine Priya would want to be alive without him. I could see Jordan being part of a scheme to get that last dose of nightblood serum too.

Introducing Hope Diyoza. The merry band of Gabriel, Octavia, Bellamy, and Echo returned to the research outpost to find the Anomaly stone. Gabriel touched all of the red symbols in sequence except for the final one, which he left to Octavia. The last symbol is called an Octonian. When she touched that symbol, the Anomaly went haywire and brought in Hope Diyoza. Instead of an infant, a young adult appeared. Octavia recognized her immediately. 20 years probably passed in whatever dimension they were in before Octavia came out of the aurora. Hope apologized, said that “he” has Diyoza, and stabbed Octavia. A green orb hit Octavia and she disappeared in Bellamy’s arms. They were just getting their relationship back on track and this happens. No one can catch a break on this show! Hope also passed out. She has some of the Anomaly symbols on her face too. The episode ended with Bellamy screaming for Octavia.

All the unanswered questions. Rothenberg wasn’t kidding when he said that this would not be a satisfying series finale! There were some major loose ends left. Where’s Octavia? Is she alive? Who is the “he” that has Diyoza? Did Sheidheda take over the Eligius IV system? Is he going to be able to control the mind drives? Will Jordan overcome the brainwashing? Will he become Ryker X after all? What are they going to do with Russell? How is Clarke going to process losing Abby? Theories are already churning.

Other things. The scene when they all reunited felt like a Power Rangers finale. Sheidheda is a more recent commander than I thought! Indra saw him when she was a child so that debunks the Cadogan=Sheidheda theory. I’m so happy Gabriel survived! I expect we’ll get more on him and his work with the Anomaly. He might even integrate into Earthkru. As I predicted, Russell survived as well. He’ll probably be imprisoned but he’s still likely to cause trouble. I loved seeing Mackson share a reunion kiss. Raven and Clarke seem to be back on good terms as evidenced by their tearful hug after Raven saved Madi. I think Raven will be more willing to cut Clarke a break now. I may do a bit of a retrospective/debrief of the season in the next week or two. I really don’t want to stop writing about The 100 for 8+ months.

That’s my take! Until next time!

  1. Simone truly was the worst of them, I agree with you. Russell still at least pretends he cares about humanity, and Josie clung to bits of hers. Simone was ALL dark inside, yikes. It’s especially jarring because she seems so cheery and such when we first meet her 236 years ago. By the time she’s Tattiawna-Simone she’s downright cold, and by the time she’s Paige-Simone? Pure. Evil. I too wrote about her not even venturing a guess on a name- good point about just guessing Kane!

I agree about being more curious of Sheidheda now that Madi isn’t involved. I kind of like that he’s bringing a little bit of Grounder culture to Russell’s life 😂 And really, isn’t it funny? Sheidy AND Russ think themselves more important than everyone else, so.

As for your Ryker X theory… I’m not fully convinced that Jordan isn’t *already* Ryker X. Which would make me angry beyond words tbh. Because that is Monty and Harper’s kid, and I am hoping that for that reason alone, they wouldn’t have done it. I wrote about it in my post, but basically- we see him holding Priya’s mind drive right? But whose was PRIYA holding? Ryker’s, so where’s that!? Also we can’t see Jordan’s neck because of the high-necked vest. I REALLY want to be wrong here.

I definitely need to do a full S6 wrap up post too. Because there’s SO much to unpack! And like you, I can’t wait 8+ months haha!
